North Narrabeen’s Chris ‘Davo’ Davidson is one of surfing’s greatest treasures: a man who has walked his own line. A preternatural talent, Davo hit the surfing world hard as a 16-year-old when he was jetted off to parts unknown alongside former three-time ASP World Champion Tom Curren and South African vagabond Frankie Oberholzer for Rip Curl’s “Search” campaign. A meteoric rise saw the powerful natural-footer ascend the highest levels of professional surfing early on, where he notably iced a rising Kelly Slater not one, but twice in Victoria.
There is a fine line between genius and madness and Davidson has never been shy about cruising it. The Australian has fallen off and requalified for the elite ASP World Tour, but his last return has been his most productive. Davidson finished a career best Runner-Up at the Billabong Pro Mundaka last season and is surfing with renewed vigor and intensity. Look for him to be a force in 2010.
